HI, I’M LISA

The Relationship Coach I Wish I’d Had

The Cliffs Notes

I'm Lisa Baird Hoey: A relationship coach trained in the Gottman Method, certified to teach The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work, and certified under Martha Beck, Oprah's longtime life coach. After my own marriage ended, I built the kind of support I wish I'd had: honest, direct, and available in the moments that actually matter—not weeks later. Today, I help individuals and couples find clarity in the relationships that mean the most.

The Real Talk

Where It Started

There was a time when I needed someone like me. My marriage was hard. We loved each other, but we fought a lot. The same arguments. The same hurt. The same frustration. I knew something wasn't working, but I couldn't understand why we kept ending up in the same place. From the outside, things looked fine. Behind closed doors, I felt overwhelmed, confused, and incredibly alone.

What I Was Actually Looking For

I had people I could talk to, but I still felt like I was carrying it all by myself. Waiting another week for my counseling appointment felt like forever. Friends meant well, but they didn't really understand. I wasn't looking for someone to tell me what to do. I wasn't even thinking about divorce then.

What I desperately wanted was someone who could help me make sense of what was happening. Someone who could help me sort through the confusion, calm the chaos in my mind, and help me know what to do in the moment—not a week later, but when life was actually happening.

I wanted someone who could help me understand why we kept getting stuck, what was really happening beneath the conflict, and how to move forward.

Becoming Her

Years later, after my marriage ended, I decided to become that person. Looking back, it made perfect sense. My entire career has always centered around people, whether I was teaching, fundraising, or helping families plan their vacations, I found joy in listening, connecting, and helping people navigate important moments in their lives. Coaching felt less like a career change and more like the next chapter of who I'd always been.

How I Help Now

Today, I help people navigate the relationships that matter most with greater clarity, confidence, and practical direction. I won't tell you whether to stay or leave. I won't take sides. And I won't hand you generic communication tips that fall apart the first time emotions run high.

Instead, I'll help you understand what's really happening beneath the conflict, untangle the confusion, and give you practical tools and strategies you can use in real life. Because when you're in the middle of one of the hardest seasons of your life, you don't need more opinions.

You need clarity. You need someone who understands what you're going through. You need someone who can help you figure out what to do next.

That's the coach I needed. Today, it's the coach I strive to be.
